How long do you think they survived together after the disaster? Or, how long did the mans wife survive before making her desicion? What are the clues I'm the text ?
Certainly the boy would be roughly 9 or 10. That wouls be years that mother was with them before she killed herself. The mother had been conemplating killing herself for some time,
"The hundred nights they had sat up debating the pros and cons of self destruction...."
The mother adds that, "I should have done it a long time ago when there were three bullets in the gun instead of two. I was stupid."
