The Rememberer Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Star (symbol)

When Ben was yet a human, he woke Annie up in the middle of the night, led her to the balcony and showed the sky filled with stars and said that there was so much in the world to dream about. Annie was a little surprised, but made her eyes wide open and looked at the shining stars. She chose one of them and tried to wish for something really good. This star becomes a symbol of dreams as when people dream they have strength enough to move forward and make all the efforts to achieve their dreams. The one with no dream is destined to fail.

Babbon, sea turtle, salamander (symbols)

All the creatures Ben is transforming into symbolize the steps of reverse evolution or devolution. Each creature takes its time, and Ben’s behavior as being each of them also differs – this is symbolic for all of the history of humanity. Commencing from the very simple forms of life, evolution made miracles and forms of life with ability to think developed – these are people.

Limits (motif)

During the story, Annie says for several times about some limits about her – and the very last limit of hers was that she would not be able to watch her lover disappear completely and decided to let him swim into the sea. This limit of her is also important, and reminds that everything has its limits, and probably people’s ability to “think” would also come to its limit.
