What is the tattered man like? Why does Henry turn away from him so quickly?

The "taatered man" is talkative.... actually, he cannot stop talking about the battle. This makes Henry uncomfortable, especially when the tattered man asks Henry where he has been wounded. Henry turns away in embarrassment.
