The Red Badge of Courage

Red Badge of Courage Chapter 12 Questions

In chapter 12, As Henry questions the retreating infantry soldiers, One of the soldiers clubs Henry with his rifle. Why?

Because of the head injury, Henry almost fainted, but was able to run with the retreat. How did Henry overcome the desire to faint and rest?

When Henry believes he may die soon, what scenes from home does he bring up in his thoughts?

A cheerful, older man grabs Henry’s arm and navigates him through the chaos to reunite him with his regiment. Why does the man seem magical and mysterious to Henry?

In a previous chapter, Henry could have been a guide to “the tattered man,” but he did not offer assistance as this kind stranger did. In your opinion, how do these two situations compare/contrast with one another?
