i have to do an essay for summer school,

Write an essay from Henry's point of view explaining to the other soldiers of the regiment why you ran from battle.

so can someone give me reasons as to why henry ran from the battle ? please & thank you.

Well, he is terrified. Henry's first real battle is chaotic and violent. Henry feels alone in the smoke and haze of the battle. Although he tries to stay, he sees other comrades turn and run, "A man near him who up to this time had been working feverishly at his rifle, suddenly dropped it and ran with howls." Henry , like many others, was a green soldier. Despite the talk of bravado, he was not emotionally or physically ready for this kind of battle.
