The Red Badge of Courage

Crane likens the scene of weary, sleeping soldiers after the first day's battle to a "frightful debauch." What is a debauch? What is Crane suggesting about war and its effects on men? ( Chapter 11 - 13 )

Thanks for the help!

A debauch is indulgence..... drinking too much, over eating. In this instance, it would be defined as something like blood lust. Crane is suggesting that in times of battle, men become consumed by the brutality.
