Why do you imagine it's difficult to name a precise date and authorship of the Ramayana?

I need help with this question from the story "Quick Guide to the Ramayana from the British Library's Ramayana Gallery."

The book is so old and made up of author's we are not sure about and at times we are not sure about. Tracing the lineage of the mythology is difficult as well.
