Weber argued that Protestantism was susceptible to modernity and capitalism. As a result, he noted that Protestantism would thus be most affected by the forces of secularization. Weber was troubled by the increase in secularization, but he also saw secularism as inevitable. Modernity served to cause a disenchantment with the spiritual world, and in doing so, held the power to create Protestant Christianity's own demise.
