The theme of choice is illustrated in the poem. Two paths are unfolded to the speaker. They are both metaphors for choices in life. Life is forcing him to make a choice but he has difficulty deciding. There seems to be a harder one: he doesn't know what is around the bend and is not as worn. Is the easier one always the most prudent to take?
