    How would you characterize Raoul's actions towards Christine? How could his behavior be viewed as either romantic or controlling?

    In the context of the story, Raoul’s behavior is meant to be construed as romantic: after all, he is so in love with her that he constantly asks after her whereabouts, goes to her home at Mamma Valerius’ house, and even hides in her dressing room to spy on her. However, this same behavior could also be seen as controlling and obsessive. Raoul also frequently takes out his anger on Christine, such as at the masked ball when she does not want him to go and find Erik, or at Mamma Valerius’ when Christine will not tell him why she is wearing a gold...
