Kino's family is the most important thing in the world to him, and he believes the discovery of the pearl will enable him to give them all they dream about. Unfortunately, the time comes when Kino can't see beyond the pearl's promise and the needs of his family..... he becomes obsessed with the dream rather than the reality. His family makes him cautious..... but they do not impede his ultimate goal.
