In the Pearl how does the way Kino look say anything about his character?

Kino was very expressive with his face, especially his eyes. His body language too expressed an animal like instinct when in danger. Kino , for example,is described as “hissing like a snake” when he attacks his wife Juana for trying to throw the pearl back into the sea
