How much control does an individual have over his/her “success” in life?

I'd like to say that we each have complete control over success in our lives. Sadly, we don't. Success is more often than not also influenced by opportunity, financial resources, and in a lot of cases..... luck. Thus, although I believe that everyone is responsible for working toward their future, there are other factors that come into play.
