The procession is rather like a parade. None of the divers go to work; Kino and his wife dress up in their best clothing, and the whole village follows them as they walk to the pearl buyers. Everyone is in a jovial mood when the procession begins, but the mood changes as the move along and Juan Tomas tells the story of the "old ones."
