The story is the overcoat

The narrator explains that Akaky got his name because it was the "least ridiculous" of the names that his godparents suggested to his mother when he was a baby. Other than just sounding funny, his name could be attributed to St. Acacius, a priest who was famous for living a simple life like Akaky. In any case there is a lsubdued ack of identity when it comes to his name: this very much reflects the lack of identity that Akaky suffers throughout his life.
