Why does cherrie v take a liking to ponyboy?

Cherry Valance likes Pony because she thinks he is different. Pony is a sensitive boy who likes movies, poetry and sunsets. Cherry doesn't see Pony as a rough ignorant Greaser. She prefers his company even to that of most SOCS.
