Darry could have gone places. He could have played football for a university. Darry was also smart enough to go to any university. Darry had the talent,smarts and good looks to do anything he wanted. Instead he was left to take care of his brothers. He became the "father" of the family by default. He also was forced to embrace his greaser past as his present and future. He had to take care of his brothers which meant he could never escape his identity of a Greaser.
