Explain why Johnny's behaviour inside the church when its on fire is not ironic.

Johnny doesn't think twice to run into the burning church to save the children. I don't think it mattered that their cigarettes might have started the fire. Johnny's heroics are consistent with his personality. Johnny is a wounded soul but also a sensitive and caring one.
