At the end of chapter one,Pony says he doesn't care about his brother Darry,but then he says,"I lie to myself". What does this mean?

This means that Ponyboy only tells himself he doesn't care about Darry..... he might even try really hard to convince himself of it too. None-the-less, he admits that he's lying to himself.... he loves his brother.
