Santiago has 3 fishing skills and he uses them to catch great fish, what are they?

are they:

-He has the fish pull the lure.

-He waits till the fish bite the lure good.

-He tugs the rope 3 times to keep the hook in the fishes mouth.

-He has bait as Sardines.

-He waits for the fish to go tired.

Thinking about the novella I remember that he used Sardines as bait. He also waited for the fish to take the bait well before hooking it. In the case of the big Marlin Santiago tried to wait for it to get tired. Of course, the old man was getting tired too, it was a battle of wits.
