Why doesn't Odyysseus kill Cyclopes when he has the chance?

Odysseus doesn't kill the Cyclops when he initially has the chance because he realizes there's a boulder in front of the cave entrance that no one will be able to move (except the Cyclops). If he'd killed him then, they'd be trapped.
