The ancient custom of hospitality required the host to provide food, shelter, money, and often transportation for their guests. The guest, on the other hand, is expected to respect the host's home, family, and servants alike. Gifts for the host are also required, as is news of the outside world. Breaking these customs of hospitality was considered to be disrespectful to the gods.
