Being a cylops, Polyphemus only has one eye to plunge a fiert stake into. Odysseus had his reasons for blinding the cyclops, he kept eating Odysseus's men. They go through the little name game when Odysseus gives the cyclops the wine. After Polyphemus cries that "Nobody" has hurt him, Odysseus tells him his name. It is sort of a heroic gesture telling Polyphemus who is avenging the death of his men.
