In what ways do the Laestrygonians violate Greek values of hospitality?

In short they were inhospitable. Instead of welcoming them, the Laestrygonians, a race of giant cannibals, are one of the many challenges Odysseus faces on his odyssey. They destroy 11 of his 12 ships and kill every man except those who escape on the ship captained by Odysseus, because it is docked outside the Laestrygonian harbor.
