Childhood

It is said that majority of our adult problems came from our childhood – fears, complexes, habits and behavior were developed in the process of growing up. Thus, our environment influenced us strongly. Parents, relatives, friends and the atmosphere in family in general were extremely important for us, because everything begins in family and being children, we absorb everything around us with great momentum. Since David didn’t have friends of his age and spent all his time with mother and Aunt Mae, they were the one who influenced his worldly perception. His childhood wasn’t careless because his family was poor, his father lost his job and later he died on the war. At school his teacher didn’t like the boy so it was unbearable for him to be there. After father’s death his mother went crazy and the only person he could rely on was Aunt Mae. He couldn’t imagine his life without this woman. Although David grew up, he had a job and dreamed that one day he will finish high school and enter college, he was still a child in his mind, with all his childish fears and loves.

Fear

Since David was as very vulnerable child, he cared about things too much and constantly was overthinking. He had went over difficulties – family scandals, war, hate and broken heart and all these difficulties didn’t make him stronger, they just made him weaker. His fear was growing together with him. He was afraid that he and his family will never be happy again that his mother will stay mad forever but most of all in the whole world he was afraid to stay alone without support and consolation. He longed to hide away from the whole world in the room where his train, the only good memory that left for him, was; or he wanted Aunt Mae to be always by his side and help him because otherwise he wont manage by himself. His fear drew him crazy and he didn’t even realized that, he killed the preacher to protect himself from this fear but still all he needed was care so he went to look for it.

Unrequited love

David loved only once in his life and this love was pure, childish and real. He fell in love with the girl he saw at the store; she was beautiful and kind with him. Her smile was adorable and he was thinking of it every time. they were going out for a while and this time was amazing for David, he dreamed that one day they will marry and since that time his life will be happier because he has found his real love. But, as it happened, the girl didn’t feel the same way about David. The relationship with him was a kind of summer adventure for her and soon she left him without regret and pain, as easy as ABC. David couldn’t understand why she was so mean to him, he never stopped thinking of her but he couldn’t do anything with it. So, he stayed with the broken heart and there was plus one thing that influenced his madness.

Madness

Mad people are actually weak because they cannon cope with their problems so they are trying to run away from that. David’s mother didn’t cope with her husband’s death and it drew her crazy, she didn’t think of her son anymore, he was hiding from unbearable reality in her madness because it was easier for her. David, who was looking at his crazy mother, was lost. He didn’t know what he feels about her – sometimes he didn’t even want to see her, he hates her but he knows that he mustn’t think this way of his mother. When Aunt Mae leaves David alone with his mother David is scared, he also wants to run away from reality and hide somewhere. When mother is dying David is hiding in the room with train and cries like a little child, the reality seems a nightmare for him and the madness which was hidden deep inside his heart released. He doesn’t control his actions anymore, because the scared little boy inside his head wants to run away and be in safe.
