What particular details are you referring to?

Paragraphs 3 and 4

The author uses mainly direct representation to tell the reader that Mathilde is not happy with her station in life. Consider the first sentence of the third paragraph, She suffered endlessly, feeling she was entitled to all the delicacies and luxuries of life. The author goes on to tell the reader plainly that,

She had no dresses, no jewels, nothing; and these were the only things she loved. She felt she was made for them alone. She wanted so much to charm, to be envied, to be desired and sought after.

The style and tone is structured like a fairy-tale or in this case a morality tale.
