The Necklace

What is a good example of forshadowing in The Necklace?

The story's ironic ending is part of what makes this tale so famous. The author, however, gives a few hints about the tragic twist. Look back over the story and then explain why you believe it is a good example of forshadowing.

Consider the opening line to the story, The girl was one of those pretty and charming young creatures who sometimes are born, as if by a slip of fate, into a family of clerks." This lets us no that fate will play a role in this story and that, being born into a family of clerks, will have something to do with wealth or loss of wealth.
