Gogol's sister Sonia is present in only a few scenes in the novel, and the story is never told fromher point of view. Why do you think Lahiri left her a less-developed charater than Gogol? What purpose does she serve in the story?

Sonya actually gets a name that works for her Indian American identity. Unlike her brother, she doesn't get a pet name and adapts quickly into American society. She represents when everything goes right for an Indian American child.
