The Most Dangerous Game

Story

What use does the story make of surprise? Are the surprises achieved fairly? Do they serve a significant purpose? Do they divert the reader’s attention from weaknesses in the story?

It is surprising that on this forbidden island that even cannibals would not live on, there is a grand gothic castle with a refined aristocrat living there. None of the surprises really make a lot of sense. This is an escape story that relies on surprise and coincidence to drive the action forward.
