Rainsford uses his "cool headedness" from the beginning of the story. He conserves his energy when he falls into the ocean. When Zaroff is hunting Rainsford, he reasons the paths Zaroff will take. He makes all kinds of traps for Zaroff like the Burmese Tiger Trap. He goes into the fog so Zaroff can't track him. He also creates false tracks. Rainsford finally reasons that he is better off to take his chances falling into the ocean than face Zaroff and his dogs.

Rainsford is a man of logic. Give evidence from Part 2 of Rainsford using reason to get himself out of a difficult situation.
