is zarroff civilized? why or why not?

On the surface Zaroff is supposed to be refined, cultured and civilized,

Of course we soon find out that the guy likes to hunt people for fun. So, I suppose it depends on what you consider "civilized" to be. I'd say that Zaroff is at heart, rather savage.
