What do we learn from his thoughts

In the first chapter, we learn that Gregor is tired and disillusioned. He doesn't even react to his metamorphosis into an insect, but rather notices the cramped quarters of his room, his late awakening, his isolation, his job, and the needs of his family. The fact that he is no longer human is a secondary consideration.
