how does the threat of losing his job affect Gregor

This scares him silly. THe manager, and Gregor's family, are horrified at what they see. The Manager makes a break for the stairs. Gregor is desperate not to lose his job even though he now looks like a bug. Gregor begs the manager to defend him at the office but by now the manager is "twitching" in revulsion. Gregor attempts to chase the manager down but this guy is long gone!
