There is of course the loss of the people they love. Miig says he is tired and mentions how much he misses Isaac. French pledges that they will rescue Minerva and shut down the government facilities. Miig responds by saying, “I know you will” . While the average reader will accept that the events of this novel are actually happening, it could be that the entire novel is symbolic of the oppression that Native Americans are facing and of the importance of their spirituality and ethnicity. Some Native American tribes are becoming increasingly concerned about the loss of their history and culture, and are seeking new ways of handing down the information and practices that are being lost. In this novel, the government and its white leaders are seeking to take away the dreams of the Native American characters, and this could be symbolic of the impact modern society is having on the Native American culture.
