What do we learn about the Kasouras through their interaction with Childan?
The Kasouras seem to be an educated, liberal couple. They have gone against a social norm in inviting Childan to their home for dinner, suggesting they wish to treat him as an equal, not a subordinate. However, when he is there, their reactions suggest that they disapprove of his own racist and antisemitic views. We also observe their interest in American culture, both in the form of Betty's cooking and attention to American etiquette and Paul's interest in American literature and jazz.
