Hah! Our sympathies soon lay with Nicholas' aunt. In grounding her nephew, she merely punished herself. Over the course of the story, she loses track of Nicholas, slips in the rain-water tank, and is told told by Nicholas that he cannot help her without breaking "her" rules. Nicholas also succeeds in exposing his aunt's lies.
