Why did Mr. Harvey murder Susie?

Mr. Harvey is a serial killer, who cannot seem to stop himself from killing. He is a sexual predator; he rapes his victims before killing them. Although Mr. Harvey can deter his urges for periods of time by torturing and killing animals, he cannot stave off his desire to kill forever. Over the course of the novel, we learn that he has killed at least eight women.
