How has Ruth changed since Susie touched her "on her way out"?

Ruth becomes obsessed with finding Susie's killer. Ruth also becomes fascinated with violence and death. She seems more negative to the world. Ruth even changes her eating habits by becoming a vegetarian: she compares the slaughter of animals to the killing of Susie.
