The setting and the common people support Jackson's intent to portray and support the themes of conformity and tradition. These people are a part of a tradition..... they're a community that has been living the same way for countless decades. This is one of the main reasons the lottery continues..... the people have grown up with it..... it has always been a part of their lives, and thus, it is not questioned.
