    What is the One Ring? What are its powers, and why did Boromir try to take it from Frodo?

    The powers of the One Ring are simple: it gives those who wear it the power of invisibility, augments their natural abilities, and passively confers a longer lifespan.

    However, the One Ring's powers come with a price. The Ring contains the essence of Sauron, and as such, it is more than just a tool of domination for him. The Ring also seeks to dominate the will of its bearers; and the more it is used, the more its users become enthralled to it, until at last they become its slaves. Indeed, by dint of its allure alone, the Ring could even bring those who don't wear it under its spell....
