In his poem, The Lonely Londoners, Selvon examines the effects of immigration on individuals.... their vulnerability and emotional angst, Moses, for example, has lived in England for an extended period of time, and yet, his memories of Trinidad are vivid, and his dreams of returning one day are constant. These desires and memories often contribute to a sense of sadness, and as a result, Moses rarely talks about his days in Trinidad with friends. Instead, Moses chooses to place his focus on the present... his life in England.

Moses is acclimating to his new life, and although he avoids reminiscing, he does continue to socialize, and he even hosts small gatherings in his home each Sunday. These gatherings allow Moses and his friends to remain a part of their community, as well as to dispell feelings of isolation in their new home and country.
