I'm not sure that Lakunle would have been a good husband to Sidi. He refuses to pay the bride-price, which is basically all she requires of him; he wanted to make her a "modern" wife.... in other words, something she was not, and he criticizes her village. Had Lakunle approached things differently, we might see his suit in a different way. Paying the bride-price would have made him a legitimate suitor, accepting Sidi for who she was and allowing her to transform and embrace modernity in her own time. In context, and in my opinion, he was the wrong man at the wrong time. Sadly, Baroka isn't much better.
