The short story "The Letter" is about a couple: Leslie and Robert. While Robert was away for business, Leslie killed a man claiming that it was in her self-defense, as the man had attempted to rape her. Robert hires an attorney prove the innocence of his wife.
Meanwhile, they come across an incriminating letter, after which the story has been titled. Because of this letter, the couple becomes involved in a blackmailing scheme set up by a clerk and the deceased man’s widow.
