Johnsy's belief that she is going to die is something we can all empathize with. She is young, artistic, and said to be “a weak, fragile, impressionable and fantasy-prone girl”. Based on her tendency to fantasize, Johnsy is imagining the worst, and in imagining the worst, she falls prey to her own imagination, growing evermore depressed and hopeless. I think most people know someone who creates mountains out of mole hills..... someone who never looks at getting, but rather, looks at the worst that could happen and makes themselves sicker in the process.
