What is the state of their relationship? Why?

Ellen and Paul's relationship (marriage) is deteriorating. Ellen resents their move to the country, and she dislikes country life..... she feels trapped in her marriage and what she cannot accept as her home. Paul, on the other hand, is determined to provide his family with a home and an inheritance for his child. He finds it more difficult to admit his choices might have been wrong, and when he finally concedes..... it is too late.
