The Lais of Marie de France

Who is considered the hero?

Considering the fact that the mystical maiden and the king performed "heroic" tasks, thus saving both bisclavret & lanval... wouldn't that make them the heros of their stories?

The "Lais of Marie de France" is a collection of twelve narrative poems (in a specific form called a 'lay') that were written at some point in the 12th century. Might you consider the author to be the hero? In addition to being the author of the lays, Marie often interposes herself into the work as an active narrator. She sometimes poses the explicit moral of a particular poem, and other times praises her own talent as a storyteller.
