The Kite Runner

Kite runner chapter 25

Consider the fact that the novel is book-ended by two kite fights. What is the similarity between them? What is different? How have the characters’ roles changed?

Consider that Amir has a close connection to Hassan in both. In the first one Amir and Hassan fly a kite and in the second Amir and Hassan's son Sohrab fly a kite together. Both scenes are extensions of each other. They cover relationships filled with love, filled with guilt, and filled with redemption. Flying a kite in both instances allows the characters to momentarily escape their differences and enjoy a shared sense of exhilaration and freedom.
