The author Hosseini often views the world as black and white, yet Amir, the protagonist, identifies as many shades of grey. I think it is Amir himself plagued by guilt and self -doubt yet capable of heroism and love. Whether it is Amir's cowardess in not helping Hassan when attacked by bullies or his heroism in returning to Afghanistan to save Hassan's son from the same bullies, Amir's personality is tempered with many shades.
