Baba has always disapproved of Amir's less than "masculine" pursuits. Instead of a soccer lover or a hunter, Amir would rather sit at home and read novels. Baba is perplexed when Amir announces that he wants to be a writer. It isn't until just before Baba dies that he reads one of Amir's stories and embraces what Amir does.
