What is Chaplin’s message—comic or tragic—about being a parent? Give example

This is one of my favorite films..... in context, I believe that Chaplin's message is simple, it takes love to be a real parent. Examples..... the mother gives up her child, hoping to insure his future. Chaplin raises the child out of love, he learns as he goes along, but the boy is never in doubt of his love.
